New Scholars Program Kicks-off with the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the ALA Scholarship Program

During the ALA 2019 Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. we are rolling out a new ALA Scholars Program. Recipients of the ALA 2018 scholarships will be brought to the Annual Conference and given opportunities to learn about ALA governance while meeting seasoned library workers. To find out about the scholars who will be participating in the program this year, visit the scholarship 50th anniversary page.

During the 1969 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Washington, DC the ALA Council approved the establishment of the ALA Scholarship Program. This action gave birth to a variety of academic scholarships, allowing individuals to become professionally degreed librarians. Included among these are the Christopher Hoy/ERT, Mary V. Gaver, Tom & Roberta Drewes and the Spectrum Scholarship just to name a few. For more information on the ALA Scholarship Program visit the ALA Scholarship Program page.

Now you can play a part in our efforts to continue advancing the library profession. With a gift to the ALA Scholarship Program you can make a difference in the career of an aspiring librarian and make a statement about the value of library and information studies. To support the ALA Scholarship Program, visit the donation page.

Feel free to contact Kimberly L. Redd at [email protected] or 800-545-2433 x4279 if you have questions.
