New book series dives into the Shared Foundations anchoring the AASL Standards

CHICAGO – A new series of upcoming books from the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and ALA Editions will provide an immersive and dedicated study of the Shared Foundations that anchor the “National School Library Standards for Learners, School Librarians, and School Libraries.” The six-book series will help school library professionals deepen their understandings of the Shared Foundations, broaden their perspectives, make connections for personal relevance, and innovate and reflect on their practice.

“School librarians have embraced the ‘National School Library Standards’ with great enthusiasm, and many want specific guidance for standards implementation,” said AASL President Mary Keeling. “This series of books, authored by practitioners, offers day-to-day guidance in developing the competencies of each Shared Foundation across K-12 learning situations and in many different contexts. I’m excited that AASL has provided a platform for these authors and school library leaders to guide us in deepening our understanding of how using the standards can transform teaching and learning every day.”

The series includes:

  • “Inquire” by Lori Donovan. Available Fall 2019.
  • “Include” by Julie Stivers. Available Spring 2020.
  • “Collaborate” by Mary Catherine Coleman. Available Fall 2019.
  • “Curate” by Len Bryan. Available Spring 2020.
