Gov. Inslee, Seattle Mayor Harrell, and Commerce Director Fong Join Wing Luke Museum to Unveil new Healing Murals in Canton Alley

Gov. Jay Inslee, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, and Commerce Director Mike Fong will join Wing Luke Museum’s Executive Director Joël Barraquiel Tan to unveil new healing murals in Canton Alley during a community healing event. The Wing Luke Museum received $100,000 in combined funding from the state and city to remedy structural damages to the Museum after a Sept. 14 hate crime. The murals, created by artists Sami Hilario and Shea Dailey, are part of a remediation process to restore the historic building and community wellness.

What:

Press conference to unveil new healing murals in Canton Alley and uplift civic investments that support restoration efforts of the historic Chinatown-International District Museum.

Who:

Gov. Jay Inslee, Mayor Bruce Harrell, Commerce Director Mike Fong and Wing Luke Museum Executive Director, Joël Barraquiel Tan.

When:

Jan. 29, 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Where:

Wing Luke Museum, Community Hall, 719 South King Street, Seattle, WA 98104.

Additional Details:

Since media will not have immediate access to the Canton Alley during the Feb. 3 Lunar New Year celebration and Canton Alley Blessing, the press conference offers a better opportunity for photographs and interviews regarding the murals.

This Blessing Ceremony promotes community healing and wellness in the aftermath of the Sept. 14 hate crime, which continues to impact the Chinatown-International District community.
