Core Webinar: Using Your Library’s Virtual Presence to Reach Users with Disabilities

CHICAGO—Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, people with disabilities are more disconnected from their communities now than ever before. In order to effectively promote services to and increase awareness of your organization by users with disabilities, libraries should optimize their online presence and utilize accessible web-based practices to more equitably serve the needs of the disability community. On Tuesday, March 9, Core: Leadership, Infrastructure, Futures will hold the webinar “Using Your Library’s Virtual Presence to Reach Users with Disabilities” which will provide strategies to evaluate and leverage your library’s website, social media and digital resources to connect with individuals with disabilities. Learn about innovative, easily replicable and cost-efficient ways to increase the accessibility of your online presence, reach new users and more equitably fulfill the mission of your library.

This hour-long session is open to librarians, managers, and directors working in public, academic, special, and school libraries; technology specialists who manage library websites and/or create content; and library staff who manage their library’s social media channels and/or public catalog. Upon completion of this webinar, attendees will have a basic understanding of WCAG 2.1 and how it applies to their library’s digital presence; acquired at least five ideas for leveraging their library’s virtual presence to be more inclusive of people with disabilities in their content creation and delivery; and have learned strategies for being a Digital Accessibility Advocate at their library.
