Core Webinar: Communications Planning for Deselection Projects

CHICAGOJoin Core: Leadership, Infrastructure, Futures on Wednesday, June 1 at 1 p.m. CT for the webinar “Communications Planning for Deselection Projects.” While deselection is a basic aspect of collection development, it has become a controversial practice. Library patrons imagine books being tossed into dumpsters with abandon. Constant budget cuts and a shift towards increased access to electronic resources create rifts between selectors and administrators. Successful communication under those circumstances requires strong collaboration and frequent contact between multiple departments within libraries. In this webinar, Betsaida Reyes and John Meier will introduce an approach that will keep all stakeholders informed for successfully ongoing deselection projects. By the end of the webinar, attendees will have learned how one large university research library is utilizing multiple channels and strategies to communicate both within and beyond the library organization, will understand how to take practical steps to create their own communication plan, and will be able to identify potential difficulties ahead of time based on the experiences of the presenters.
