AASL Town Halls promote community and connections

CHICAGO – The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) continues to build community by providing opportunities for school librarians to share and network with monthly virtual town halls. Dates and registration links for the final four AASL Town Halls for the 2021-2022 school year can be found at www.ala.org/aasl/townhall. Topics for each town hall will be announced prior to each date.

The upcoming AASL Town Hall, taking place at 6:00 p.m. Central on Wednesday, February 16, will focus on love – love of learners, the profession, and the association. A panel of AASL member volunteers in conversation with AASL President Jennisen Lucas, AASL President Kathy Lester, and AASL Immediate Past President Kathy Carroll will share how getting involved and sharing their passion for the profession brings benefits to all. Registration for this “loving” conversation is open at www.ala.org/aasl/townhall.

“I look forward to our AASL Town Halls because I know that at each one I have a chance of learning something new and connecting with my colleagues,” said AASL President Jennisen Lucas. “They are a monthly opportunity for our school library colleagues to join together for fellowship and learning. I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming Town Halls.”

AASL Town Halls provide an opportunity for school library professionals to network and brainstorm around a central theme. Past themes have included media literacy, book challenges, and lessons learned from changing instructional settings. Themes are set prior to each town hall based on current needs and trends in the profession.

During the town halls, participants share successes, solicit ideas, and strategize the best ways to meet the needs of school librarians and their learners. Facilitators include AASL leadership, special guests, and peers across the country who encourage an open conversation focused on leading learning in schools and communities.

The American Association of School Librarians, www.aasl.org, a division of the American Library Association (ALA), empowers leaders to transform teaching and learning.
