The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster trailer: Frankenstein tale cures death this June

A trailer has been released for The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster, which is set to receive a theatrical and digital release in June

Crypt TV, an entertainment company that was launched in 2015 by Jack Davis and Eli Roth, with Blumhouse Productions on board as an investor, has put together it first domestic feature film: a new take on Mary Shelley’s classic story Frankenstein called The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster. RLJE Films will be giving The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster a theatrical, VOD, and digital release on June 9th, and a trailer for the film is now online! You can check it out in the embed above.

The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster will also be streaming on Shudder and AllBlk at some point down the line.

Bomani J. Story wrote and directed the film, crafting a story about teenage anti-hero, Vicaria, who is on a desperate quest to cure death. With brilliant intelligence and a willingness to lose it all, Vicaria is able to resurrect the corpse of her recently slain brother, but unknowingly creates an unstoppable monster hungry for revenge.

Laya DeLeon Hayes of The Equalizer plays the 17-year-old Vicaria, with Denzel Whitaker of Black Panther co-starring as a character named Kango. Chad L. Coleman of The Walking Dead is also in the cast.

Story, who made his feature debut with this film, produced The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster with Crypt TV’s Jack Davis and Darren Brandl. Jeremy Elliott and Jasmine Johnson executive produced. Story had this to say about the film: “Growing up, I loved watching monster movies with my older sister. We rarely, if ever, saw ones that tackled issues that were important to us, with people who looked like us.  It has been a dream of mine to bring an adaptation of Frankenstein to film through the black lens with a lead character as smart as my sister. Crypt has been a champion of this story since day one, but it finally clicked together when Laya came to play Vicaria. What an amazing team.
