The free movie we’re featuring for this week’s Friday Fright Nights is the animated horror anthology The Black Vault
A full Free Movie of the Day is posted on the JoBlo Horror Movies YouTube channel every day of the week – but on Fridays things get even freakier and a little more fun. Get your weekend started the right way by indulging in Friday Fright Nights! Every Friday, we’ll be taking a look at another genre movie you can watch in its entirety, free of charge, either on the YouTube channel linked above or in the video embed here.
This week’s Friday Fright Nights feature is a special one to us here on JoBlo and Arrow in the Head, because this happens to be a release from JoBlo Media! It’s the animated anthology The Black Vault (a.k.a. The Black Vault: Tales from the Paranormal Realm), and we worked with filmmaker Jason Cuadrado to bring this one into the world. You only have to take 40 minutes out of your day to check the movie out, but over the course of those 40 minutes you’ll hear three separate horror stories… and if you like these one, who knows what could happen in the future? There’s always room for The Black Vault 2.
Cuadrado wrote and directed all three of the stories that make up The Black Vault, and then put the segments together not on location or on a set with live actors, but in the Unreal Engine 5. As we watch the animated characters go through the horrific scenarios Cuadrado dropped them into, narration from the host of the anthology guides us through the stories… and the writer/director provided the narration himself! It was a good choice to take on those duties himself, because Cuadrado has a very fitting voice for the job.
Produced by John Fallon and executive produced by Berge Garabedian, The Black Vault has the following synopsis:
Stored within the walls of The Black Vault are stories that defy reasonable explanation. Horrifying cases of strange phenomena, nightmarish creatures, and blood-curdling mysteries. Join Mr. Black as he investigates terrifying tales of the unknown in this animated horror anthology series.
Cuadrado’s previous directing credits include the 2008 Japanese horror anthology Tales from the Dead… which is presented in the Japanese language, despite the fact that Cuadrado didn’t know how to speak Japanese when he was making the movie… the 2013 horror thriller Devil May Call (starring Corri English, Tyler Mane, and Traci Lords), and episodes of the series States of Horror.
So take a look at The Black Vault – after all, it’s free! – and let us know what you thought of it by leaving a comment below or on the YouTube page. Would you like to see more animated horror anthologies from JoBlo Media and Jason Cuadrado?
