Blade rumor: Mia Goth’s character is the villain Lilith

Mia Goth is rumored to be playing the villainous Lilith in the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Blade, starring Mahershala Ali

A few weeks ago, we heard that Mia Goth – whose star is on the rise due to the attention she has received from her performances in the horror films X and Pearl – had signed on to play a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of Blade. Soon after, it was announced that True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto was coming on board to rewrite the screenplay written by Michael Starrbury (When They See Us)… and then the project had to be put on pause because of the Writers Guild strike. While we wait for the strike to end and for Blade to get rolling again, the well-sourced Daniel Richtman has dropped some details about Blade on his Patreon – including the reveal that Goth will be playing the primary villain, Lilith!

We have to take this as a RUMOR for now, since Marvel hasn’t offered any details on Goth’s character, but Lilith would be a great role for Goth to play – no matter which version of the character she’d be playing.

You see, Blade has gone up against a couple different villains named Lilith in the Marvel Comics source material. There’s the vampiric Lilith, the daughter of Dracula. And there’s the demon sorceress Lilith, known as the Mother of All Demons, who is supported in her evil schemes by her demonic offspring the Lilin. A group that has caused a lot of trouble for Blade and his Midnight Sons associates Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, etc. Either Lilith would make sense as the villain in a Blade movie, but it’s the demonic one that could open the door for a lot more horror-edged superhero movies in the future…

Yann Demange (White Boy Rick) will be directing Blade, with Mahershala Ali (Green Book) playing the titular vampire slayer. Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) was previously attached to direct the film, but stepped away due to “scheduling issues”. While Tariq was on board, he cast Delroy Lindo (Get Shorty) and Aaron Pierre (Old) in supporting roles. Richtman hears that Pierre’s character has been written out, so he is no longer involved, but that Lindo will be playing the vampire Deacon Frost.

Blade is scheduled to reach theatres on September 6, 2024, but that’s likely to change now that the WGA strike is delaying production.
