Arnold Schwarzenegger gets blunt on the Terminator franchise and blames Jason Reitman for stopping the Twins sequel

The iconic action star shows no signs of slowing down and aims to radiate positivity while being unfiltered in a new interview.

The legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger won’t let age slow him down. The action icon is 75 years old but stays as motivated as he always has been. This motivation, which once led to his famous physique and an impressive Governor win, is why he will be seen in a new Netflix action comedy series, FUBAR, a new introspective documentary, Arnold, a new action film Breakout, and a new self-help book, Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life. The Hollywood Reporter sits down with Schwarzenegger as he gets incredibly candid about his feelings on movies, politics, and his personal life.

One inevitable topic of discussion is Arnold’s future with the Terminator movies. When asked if the series was finished after the dismal reaction to Terminator: Dark Fate, Schwarzenegger feels the franchise will go on, but without him. “The franchise is not done. I’m done. I got the message loud and clear that the world wants to move on with a different theme when it comes to The Terminator. Someone has to come up with a great idea. The Terminator was largely responsible for my success, so I always would look at it very fondly. The first three movies were great. Number four [Salvation] I was not in because I was governor. Then five [Genisys] and six [Dark Fate] didn’t close the deal as far as I’m concerned. We knew that ahead of time because they were just not well written.”

There had been talks for years that the former Mr. Olympia was to re-team with Danny DeVito and Ivan Reitman for a sequel to their comedy Twins, which was to be titled Triplets and had been rumored to cast either Eddie Murphy or Tracy Morgan as the third sibling. The passing of Ivan Reitman was a huge blow to the momentum of the project, but Arnold would call out his son, Jason Reitman, for killing it completely. “Jason Reitman fucked it up! Jason Reitman literally stopped the project when his father died. His father wanted to do it really badly. I wanted to do it really badly. Danny DeVito wanted to do it really badly. We had the financing. When his father passed away, Jason says, ‘I never liked the idea’ and put a hold on it. I’m developing another movie with Danny; he’s so much fun to work with and so talented.”

In the early 90s, Arnold had partnered with the White House for a program that helped children to think about fitness and health with the President’s Physical Fitness Test. Arnold now continues to help those in need of advice on how to take care of their bodies and what to do to improve their physique. He now administers daily newsletters which he publishes himself that have garnered 432,000 subscribers, as he offers his secrets to keeping your body healthy. Schwarzenegger has become a new picture of positivity in the wake of an extremely cynical age, and if you’re interested in knowing more about his candid thoughts about his life, his marriage, his movies, and the current state of political correctness, the full article is on The Hollywood Reporter website.
