Sarah E. McKinsey Selected 2019 ALA Century Scholarship Recipient

The American Library Association (ALA) has selected Sarah E. McKinsey of Madison, Wisconsin as the 2019 Century Scholarship recipient.

The $2,500 scholarship funds services or accommodation for a library school student with disabilities admitted to an ALA-accredited library program.

McKinsey stated that she aspires to have a career in librarianship because of her interest in equity of access and accommodations. McKinsey worked as a paraprofessional in a public library several years ago and discovered that interacting with patrons was her favorite part of the job.

Her joy of working with people is evident to those with whom she works. One reference commented that “She is genuine with her interpersonal relationships and finds real satisfaction in helping people. She is a true professional.”

Another reference commented that “She has great customer service skills. She has a real desire to help people, and it shows. She is wonderful with our library patrons. We received numerous compliments about her work. It is her people skills that make her right for a career in the library profession.”

McKinsey attends the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
