‘Bring Them Down’

Bafta-winner Barry Keoghan and Christopher Abbott have been revealed as the stars of Bring Them Down, which is in the final stages of filming in Ireland for Mubi Production.

Paul Mescal and Tom Burke were previously attached to the project, which marks the feature debut of writer/director Chris Andrews, a Screen Star of Tomorrow in 2019. A first look at the film can be seen above.

The film also stars Colm Meaney, Nora-Jane Noone, Paul Ready and Susan Lynch.

Abbott plays Michael, the last son of a shepherding family who lives with his ailing father, Ray (Meaney). Burdened by a terrible secret, Michael has isolated himself from the world. When a conflict with rival farmer Gary and his son Jack, played by Keoghan escalates, Michael is drawn into a devastating chain of events, forcing him to confront the horrors of his past and leaving both families permanently altered.

Keoghan recently won the Bafta for best supporting actor for his role in Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin, a performance for which he is also nominated for an Academy Award.

The UK-Ireland-Belgium co-production is produced by Ivana MacKinnon of the UK’s Wild Swim; Ruth Treacy and Julianne Forde of Ireland’s Tailored Films; Jacob Swan Hyam; and Jean-Yves Roubin and Cassandre Warnauts of Belgium’s Frakas Productions, Belgium.

Mubi has financed the production in conjunction with Screen Ireland, the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and the UK Global Screen Fund, which is financed by the UK government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and administered by the BFI.

Mubi’s other productions include Mia Hansen-Løve’s One Fine Morning, Michel Franco’s upcoming film Memory, Ekwa Msangi’s Sundance prize-winner Farewell Amor, Rachel Lang’s Our Men, and the recently announced My First Film, the feature film debut of Zia Anger, starring Odessa Young.
