ALSC launches Book & Media Awards Shelf website

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), is pleased to announce its new Book & Media Awards Shelf, a database driven website presenting a collection of books, recordings, apps, websites, and other media for children (birth to age 14).

The Awards Shelf is a one-stop destination, delivering almost 2,000 ALSC award-winning titles, representing 100 years of ALSC awards history. Thanks to its intuitive database, users can search titles in multiple ways—by genre, format, creator, award, and more. Various filters also assist in serving up fine-tuned results.

With the Awards Shelf becoming the new, official home for ALSC award titles, the awards section of the ALSC website will be streamlined to focus on the award submission and committee processes.

“With the ALSC Book & Media Awards Shelf, ALSC aspires to share the work of our hard-working, dedicated member committees more widely,” said ALSC President, Kirby McCurtis. “We are excited to have this media and information more easily accessible via a user-friendly, effective platform.”

The Awards Shelf will be updated each year following the announcements of the ALA Youth Media Awards and Notable lists, to support library workers, educators, parents, and caregivers in their search for the best books and media for children. More about the database content and its continued development can be found in the About section of the database.

ALSC is the world’s largest organization dedicated to the support and enhancement of library service to children. With a network of approximately 4,000 children’s and youth librarians, literature experts, publishers, and educational faculty, ALSC members are committed to engaging communities to build healthy, successful futures for all children.
