ALA Youth Media Awards webcast open to schools, libraries and public

CHICAGO – On Monday, Jan. 25, 2021, at 8 a.m. CT, the American Library Association (ALA) will reveal the next classics in children’s and young adult literature and media during its Youth Media Awards announcements. Libraries, schools, and book lovers worldwide are welcome to follow results by visiting ALA’s streaming platform at  or  ALA’s social media channels, including Facebook, YouTube, or Twitter, by following hashtag #alayma.

Each year ALA honors books and other outstanding materials for children and teens. Recognized worldwide for the high quality they represent, the ALA Youth Media Awards, including the prestigious Newbery, Caldecott, Printz, and Coretta Scott King Book Awards, guide parents, educators, librarians, and others in selecting the best materials for youth. Chosen by committees composed of librarians, library workers, and other literature and media experts, award-winning titles rarely go out of print and stay on library shelves for decades to come. Additionally, the webcast will include the announcement of ALA’s professional affiliates—  highlighting the best of the best in multicultural literature for youth.

School libraries and classrooms across the country will compare the results of their mock elections to ALA award selections. Those who miss the live broadcast can view a complete list of 2021 award winners and an encore recording of the 2021 ALA Youth Media Awards announcements at  The encore video will be available on-demand by 11 a.m. CT at the same location.
