ALA President Patty Wong to host ALA Connect Live on equity, diversity, and inclusion

CHICAGO, IL – The American Library Association (ALA)’s Connect Live series continues in November with a program focused on equity, diversity, and inclusion. The online event will take place Thursday, November 18, 2021, at 1pm CT/11am PT.

Hosted by President Patty Wong, the first ALA President of Chinese American heritage, the November program for ALA Connect Live will feature a conversation facilitated by Dr. Nicole Cooke about equity, diversity, and inclusion through the lens of programs, initiatives, and scholarships that are impactful, meaningful, and actionable. Dr. Cooke, the Augusta Baker Endowed Chair and an Associate Professor at the School of Library and Information Science at the University of South Carolina, will be joined by Ray Pun, President of the Asian Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA), and Pambanisha Whaley, Head of User Services at Vassar College Libraries

Conceived of during the pandemic to foster connection and conversation, ALA Connect Live was launched by Immediate Past President Julius C. Jefferson to bring the library community together to discuss issues and challenges. These town hall-inspired dialogues allow for an open discourse with the Executive Board and with fellow library professionals.

Prospective attendees can reserve a seat for this inspiring discussion or submit your questions in advance on this or any other topic.
