Screen Actors Guild Awards: Everything Everywhere dominates all at once

Everything Everywhere All at Once took home a record four Screen Actors Guild Awards, again proving the movie to beat at the Oscars.

The winners for the 29th Screen Actors Guild Awards have been unveiled, with Everything Everywhere All At Once taking home the most statues with four, a new record. It was nominated for five, with two in the Supporting Actress category.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards are typically seen as one of the most accurate predictors of the Academy Awards, as actors make up more than 15% of the voting Academy members. As such, many of the SAG winners go on to become Oscar winners. This would make Brendan Fraser, Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Jamie Lee Curtis the technical frontrunners in their respective categories. Quan has been a lock all awards season, while Fraser may still face some competition from Austin Butler (Elvis)–and certainly he’d rather have an Oscar than a hood ornament. Yeoh and Curtis were the more surprising wins of the evening, as Cate Blanchett (Tár) and Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) were considered shoe-ins for the Oscar.

On the other hand, the Best Ensemble award doesn’t necessarily correlate with the Best Picture winner. Since 2010, exactly half of the SAG winners went on to take home the Oscar. However, that percentage will go up next month, as Everything Everywhere All at Once is the odds-on favorite to take home Best Picture.
