MCU: Why Doesn’t ‘Secret Invasion’ Have a Release Date Yet?

The MCU has quickly become one of the largest and most successful film franchises in history and they have a track record of hits that has earned them the right to say so. But no franchise is without its faults. While the MCU has done its best to keep eager-fans in the loop about all of their upcoming projects, every now and then they stumble and drop the ball a bit. For example, the MCU has bombarded audiences over the past two years with a surplus of movies and television shows at a rate no other studio has come close to matching and they’re seemingly set to do so once more in 2023.

However, despite the long list of projects that the MCU has scheduled to release this year, fans have gotten shockingly little in terms of trailers or news updates on when exactly they’ll be releasing. One of said projects, Secret Invasion, is set to star Nick Fury in a highly-anticipated Disney+ show that was supposed to be released in early 2023 – but early 2023 is quickly passing and audiences are beginning to wonder why the studio has been mum on the subject.

Conflicting Reports of MCU’s 2023 Schedule

As stated above, the MCU hasn’t given much on when exactly their 2023 projects will air, and it has made fans all the more frustrated since there are conflicting reports about what shows and movies will actually be premiering and which ones may be getting reworked in the MCU schedule. For example, one report back in December claimed that the MCU was going to dial back their output and only release three shows on Disney+ in 2023, with the list of shows including Secret Invasion, Loki season 2, and Ironheart. However, a new report followed up in January claimed that the MCU would also be releasing What If…? season 2, Echo, and Agatha: Coven of Chaos this year, although none of the projects were given specific release dates in either claim.

Not only are there conflicting errors regarding release dates, but the MCU film schedule has been getting conflicting reports as well. One source claimed that the Armor Wars movie was set to film from April to August of this year, but that source received massive doubt from an insider who attested that a film will usually have a director at least a year before production starts – and since Armor Wars doesn’t have a director yet, it seems very unlikely that they would begin production in two months. Add in the fact that the insider said Captain America 4 and Thunderbolts were both likely to be filmed before Armor Wars and Thunderbolts isn’t set to start filming until June, and it debunks the theories (and clouds the 2023 MCU schedule) even further.

Trailer Was Almost 5 Months Ago

Even with the possibility of the MCU’s 2023 schedule being out-of-whack, the largest reason why fans were expecting some kind of release date is that a trailer for the show was dropped nearly 5 months ago back in September. Since then, the only update was a quick couple of shots in the trailer for Disney Plus’ 2023 releases and none of the shots contained new footage.

So, with most MCU projects getting multiple trailers within 5 months of the release date, it seems awfully strange that fans were given a full-blown trailer 5 months ago and the studio still hasn’t set a release date. In most cases, audiences would have been treated to another trailer in the given amount of time and possibly even already made it to the debut of the series. Instead, MCU fans continue to sit in the dark and wait on when they’ll get to see Nick Fury return to the screen.

MCU Constantly Rearranging Things

Despite the oddity of Secret Invasion still not having a release date, as we stated earlier, even the MCU can’t account for anything. Yes, they make well-thought plans but those plans ultimately will have to warp and change over time. As recently as last year, the MCU had a schedule change wherein they swapped the release dates of Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk. Sadly, that might just be all this waiting is – the MCU might just be rearranging some things behind the scenes that they aren’t ready to reveal to the public yet. And maybe that’s a good thing.

Perhaps the success of last year’s one-hour specials (Werewolf by Night, Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special) have made the MCU reconsider whether or not all of their projects need to be full-blown blockbuster films or television series. Maybe the MCU has heard the criticism over the CGI being less-than-stellar over the last few projects and they’re just making sure all the loose ends are tied up. We don’t know – and we won’t know until the MCU decides to finally let fans in on when they’ll get to enjoy the Secret Invasion series. We all just hope it’s soon.
