The James Cameron epic which became the third highest-grossing film of all time will hit home screens later this month.
Are you ready to return to Pandora? James Cameron‘s sci-fi epic, Avatar: The Way of Water has climbed to the top 5 of the biggest movies of all time, and with Titanic and the first Avatar, he’s now made three of the top four highest-grossing films ever (Avengers: Endgame as the odd one out). The massive success pretty much guarantees the rest of the franchise, with four more movies planned. And now, the movie is coming home!
According to Deadline, the movie is set to hit digital services on March 28. These digital editions will also naturally be available in 4K Ultra HD quality with Dolby Atmos audio. The Way of Water will come with more than three hours of never-before-seen bonus content, which is almost as long as the film itself. This content features interviews with the filmmakers plus the cast and the crew. The bonus content will also include featurettes on the “challenges facing cast and crew as filmmakers,” a behind-the-scenes look at the world building of the planet of Pandora, featurettes on Pandora’s returning and new characters, as well as bonus material on casting, the stunts, and the many other aspects on the making of the film.
With a thirteen year gap between films, Cameron had been perfecting the technology of capturing, not only performances, but environments for the special effects artists to accurately recreate elements that make up the natural look of Pandora’s nature. Much attention has been paid to the realistic depiction of water as it is digitally created and the revolutionary way the artist integrate the CGI with live action elements. No matter your opinion of the film, it would be interesting to see how far the technology and capture methods have come as Cameron has banked his future on it and even said he would have to train the next filmmaker who will be taking over the franchise from him.
